Seven big changes we already know are coming in the Salesforce Winter Release ‘25

17 September 2024

Summer is over, we’re all back from our vacations, and we’re already gearing up for winter – at least if we work in the Salesforce ecosystem. Salesforce has three major releases each year, and autumn/fall is the only season we skip, so we go straight from summer to the winter.

The key Salesforce Winter Release 2025 dates happen on 6 September, 5 October, and 12 October, but your own date depends on your instance of Salesforce. To see your exact schedule, head to the Salesforce Trust, search by instance name or your domain, and click “maintenance”.

As a certified Salesforce professional myself, I’m excited about what’s in store over the coming weeks. Here’s my selection, based on what we know so far, of some of the most important features of the Salesforce Winter Release.

1. Inline edits with the enhanced user list view

It’s exciting to see this update because until now it was possible to do in-line editing for pretty much every object except users. With the Winter ‘25 update, it will be possible to enable enhanced user list view in setup under users which will automatically enable inline editing on the user object.

2. View object access from object manager

We all have to agree that this update will make our lives much easier and convenient. We will get a comprehensive view of access to each object by using the read-only object access summary in object manager. For now, the summary is read-only, however it is planned for a future release to give us edit object CRUD directly from the object access summary option.

3. Manage all user details in one centralized location

User information will be consolidated on the enhanced user access summary page, making it easier to view and edit. Standard and custom user fields will align with the user details section of the assigned profile page layout. We will be able to access the view summary from a user’s record in setup.

4. Gain insights into how user permissions are assigned

User access summary is a new option that will come with the Winter 2025 update. By using it, we will be able to get insights into the profile, permission sets, and permission set groups that grant permissions to a specific user. This will be available from setup, under users, and there will be a new option to view summary. This update will simplify user management as previously, finding this information required a lot of effort.

5. Simplify public group membership management

The public group summary page will allow us to easily manage group members. With improved performance, the updated member selection experience will simplify handling users, roles, and nested public groups. We will be able to search through current or available members and add or remove up to 100 members at once. Additionally, we will be able to edit or delete the selected public group directly from the summary page.

6. Easily discover and set up your Sales Cloud features with sales Cloud Go

Another new feature that comes in the Winter 2025 is Sales Cloud Go. In Sales Setup, we will be able to explore all available Sales Cloud features and turn them on with a click. Sales Cloud Go will allow us to learn everything we need to know about the feature before enabling it, with access to screenshots, tours, videos, and help topics. If the your-account app is activated, we will also be able to purchase add-on licenses directly from Sales Cloud Go.

7. Conditional formatting of record fields

In the Salesforce Lightning app builder, on pages enabled with dynamic forms, we will be able to add formatting to fields to help users quickly identify the most relevant information on a record page. Conditional formatting will use sets of rules. Each rule includes conditions that dictate how and when formatting is applied to a field.

I think these updates promise to make our Salesforce experience more efficient and user-friendly. I’m even starting to look forward to winter!
